This is just a minor maintenance update to fix some linking problems.

fix rename hook for newlib file IO layer
fix dependency filenames for special files

As usual, the binary is available through the updater for windows users. For other platforms several binaries are provided on the devkitARM release 23b SF package. The latest buildscripts are the 20080516 package.

updated gdb to 6.8
updated newlib to 1.16.0
use static libexpat for gdb, enabling target descriptions.
use static libgmp and libmpfr for gcc, avoiding the need for users to find their own.

There is now a linux x86_64 binary available thanks to DesktopMan for the loan of a machine to build this. Please report on the success of this binary in the forums.

Several users have been adding support requests and other toolchain related questions to the comments. Please direct these to the forums where more help will be forthcoming.

The Insight builds available for windows have now been rebuilt with a static libexpat to allow use of target descriptions.

There were a few warnings thrown up by the update to gcc 4.3.0 and the arm9 template makefile has been causing issues so a new libnds examples tarball has been made available.

The next libnds release is still a work in progress, more news as it’s available.

The latest release of the ARM toolchain is now available. There are a number of improvements

binutils updated to 2.18.50
gcc updated to 4.3.0
grit updated to 0.8
ndstool now uses default.arm7 from libnds directory
newlib multibyte code enabled with C-UTF8 locale

devkitPro Updater 1.4.6 now downloads and installs the default.arm7 file used for arm9 only projects separately from libnds. This will allow us to maintain a much improved default arm7 core which will later include built in wifi support.

As usual, windows users should run the updater which will update itself, make sure you add the new default arm7 when shown the update list.

The donations page has been fixed, thanks to those who told me the donation buttons were broken. Your support is much appreciated.

A porting guide for 4.3.0 is available on the main gnu.org site, there are a number of new features and better conformance to C++ standards.

akkit.org optimisation competition

Sgstair has recently announced a new competition for budding hackers to show off their optimisation skills. The object of the exercise is to write code to produce a speedy Mandlebrot set generator on the DS so, if you think you’re up for the challenge, head over to the akkit competition page.

Google Summer of Code

After some harassment by one of the plan 9 developers we decided to put devkitPro forward as a mentoring organisation for this year’s Google Summer of Code. There is a project ideas page on the wiki along with some brief details of how to get in touch if you’re interested in any of the projects of have ideas of your own.

The Plan 9 community is also recruiting student ds developers for GSoC 2008. Interested students can make contact on the plan9 irc channel on freenode or through the plan9 google group. The group also has a project page found at code.google.com/p/inferno-ds/

This should be a great opportunity to combine your studies with homebrew.

Insight package update

I’ve recently been working on a patchset for Insight which allows for building in a mingw/msys environment that has been accepted and applied in Insight mainline. Since users have been having trouble with the old package on XP and Vista we’ve released a build from CVS HEAD which is now available through the devkitPro installer/updater.

Updated buildscripts available

Now we have some basic getting started instructions on the wiki I thought it was about time we made more effort to keep the public buildscripts up to date. These are now available in the Sourceforge download pages.

These scripts will build devkitARM r21, devkitPPC r14 and the current iteration of devkitPSP r12 which will probably be released in a few weeks.
