Hey, I thought devkitPro was free!
devkitPro is Free! Donations are completely voluntary.
You don't need to send anything to use the program but some people feel that devkitPro is worth something more than, well... nothing.
So why should I donate?
devkitPro, like all software, costs the author both time and money. Time is spent
- Writing the program.
- Writing the documentation.
- Answering questions (several a day, usually).
- Maintaining this web site.
- Reading bug reports and taking appropriate action.
- Explaining to my girlfriend why I'm working on devkitPro instead of taking her out to the movies.
And it costs money to
- Host the web site.
- Buy development tools and books.
- Build, keep and run test machines.
- Maintain a nutritious diet of caffeine and stale cookies for those late nights of programming.
- Take my girlfriend out sometimes so I can get some peace to work.
OK, so how much should I donate?
How much you donate is entirely up to you.
It depends on
- How much you think devkitPro is worth.
- How generous you are feeling.
- How guilty you feel for keeping me away from my girlfriend while I live on a diet of caffeine and stale cookies.
Think about it this way; for $10, I can share a pint of beer with my girlfriend. If you like devkitPro enough to buy me a couple of pints, donate $10. Some other values to think about ...
